The artistry and beauty with which the story here is woven and then spun, makes "The Bikeriders" a singular piece of cinematic excellence.
Even though "The Flash" plays a bit long, the film delivers an entertaining and sometimes satisfying entry to the cannon of the DC Extended Cinematic Universe.
"Bullet Train" is an action-comedy that takes a talented cast and capable director and turns it into an obnoxious mess that earns every trainwreck pun it gets.

Alice (Rachel Weisz) is in China cut open by a magician, in an ER room telling a patient to breathe, in Tanzania researching insects, and in a parked car spying on a suburban house. Complete Unknown begins by showing what it is to live as someone who, at the very least, is running from their past and has not developed an adult capacity to deal, and at the most, is inhabiting a semi-psychotic state...[Read More]
Anticipation for Midnight Special was high heading into the film’s release. Perhaps, even a little too high. So much had been said about director Jeff Nichols and haunting muse Michael Shannon that the Internet had many thinking it would rocket off into another dimension of quality. That it would be this generation’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), E.T. (1982), and Starman (1984) wrappe...[Read More]
Premiering at last year’s Cannes Film Festival in the prestigious vanguard of movies “In Competition,” director Jeff Nichols’ third film, Mud, was surely too modest and commercial to win the Palme d’Or – though the 33-year-old made a splash at the festival in 2011 when his intense drama Take Shelter took the Grand Prize, giving Nichols a name on the international stage. Mud is a more meandering bu...[Read More]
With the release of Iron Man 3 less than two weeks away, the beginning of the 2013 summer movie season is almost in sight. Apart from some occasional bright spots, this has been a pretty boring spring for movies, so the beginning of summer can’t get here soon enough. And this week’s installment of Trailer Trashin’ takes another look at one of my most anticipated films of this sum...[Read More]

Obviously, these trailer are coming out in conjunction with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which was a ton of fun, and I highly recommend you go see it. Because there were two trailers in particular that I wanted to examine...[Read More]

I walked into Machine Gun Preacher expecting a campy fun grindhouse flick, something along the lines of Hobo with a Shotgun. That’s because up until the screening, I had heard absolutely nothing about the movie: no trailers, no pre-release hype, nothing. After watching the movie, it’s a shame that Machine Gun Preacher is flying so under the radar because it’s a movie well worth seeing. Instead of ...[Read More]
